CDs
Readipop has a proud history of releasing CDs to help support emerging local artists and celebrate the music of Reading. In fact the Readipop No.1 CD, released in 1998, was the organisations first project.
To date Readipop has released five CDs to the public (as well as many for project participants).
Readipop No.1 CD
Our first project was the Readipop no.1 CD which featured 17 Reading based acts. With sponsorship from John Madejski we produced and distributed 10,000 free CDs to local people, Reading Festival goers and the music industry. The CD was hailed a great success and was followed up by a series of popular gigs.
Talic
The success of the no.1 CD resulted in Readipop winning a commission from Reading Borough Council to deliver a project which created the Talic CD.
This CD promoted music of black origin created by Reading-based artists. The project involved music production workshops with newer artists as well as promoting the work of established acts. 5,000 free CDs were distributed to the public at Reading Carnival in May 1999. Readipop also ran a series of PR workshops enabling the featured artists to learn about promoting their material.
Readipop ’99 CD
In August, with support from the Madejski Stadium, Readipop released the Readipop’99 CD, once again distributing 10,000 free CDs around the time of the Reading Festival. More gigs and events followed.
Firewire 2002
The Firewire project ran in Summer 2002 and aimed to give young people who had not previously made music, the chance to give it a try. For many, it also offered the opportunity to perform their original material in front of an invited audience at Reading's 21 South Street Arts Centre, in a showcase event. The summer's activities culminated in the production of a CD.
Readipop 2011 CD
The Readipop 2011 CD features some of Readipop’s current favourite local artists, bands playing at the Readipop Picnic and artists that both Readipop and PlugnPlay Studios have been happy to support and work with over the previous year.
