There was a photography studio in the arcade on Station Road from about 1908 to 1950. It was operated by number of different photographers over the years, including the improbably named Lorraine Lorraine and Arthur Crescendo.

Between 1908 and 1911 the studio was operated by Christopher Adams; son of Walton and brother to Marcus Adams. Sadly, Christopher did not enjoy the same level of success as the rest of his family. Instead, he made a living taking portraits of local people and selling hand coloured versions of his brother’s more popular photographs.

In 1925 Christopher moved out from under his family’s shadow to Poole, where he set up shop as an artist. He became well known for painting miniatures, his work was regularly exhibited in The Academy and Paris Salon. He was even commissioned to paint two pictures for Queen Mary’s dolls house, both of which are in the Royal Collection. He married fellow artist Minnie Walters Anson.
